This was another demoralising defeat for Terenure as DLSP helped their cause of remaining in the top flight with this encouraging victory at Lakelands Park on Saturday. In less than ideal conditions, this was a poor encounter but DLSP, pitted against their half hearted opponents, were well worth their win.
It was hard to believe that four weeks before Terenure had produced one of the most amazing comebacks when defeating Garryowen 36-33.
Terenure were unable to summon up that same spirit against a DLSP side, who were bottom of the table at the start of play.
But even worse was that Terenure only managed a score in each half despite a major shuffle in the back division. Admittedly the loss of Eric Miller's was a huge blow.
The former Lion had been withdrawn by Leinster team doctors having picked up an injury against Munster.
Terenure playing into the breeze in the first half trailed by 10 points, their only score of the half coming from full back, Richard Governey. DLSP were on top and their opening try came after Damien McCabe and Declan O'Brien had combined to send Kenny Wheelock over. McCabe converted to add to a previous penalty to leave it 13-3 at half time.
Governey reduced the arrears with his second successful kick but DLSP went over for their second try when right wing Brian Hogan was released by Simon O'Donnell.
