Dettori for Haydock

FRANKIE DETTORI returns from suspension on Saturday with high hopes of securing another Group One success

FRANKIE DETTORI returns from suspension on Saturday with high hopes of securing another Group One success. It was confirmed yesterday that the champion will partner Lucayan Prince in the Haydock Park Sprint Cup.

Dettori is back in action in Britain after being absent since August 30th because of two riding bans.

There had been the possibility that the jockey would go to Kempton to partner horses for Godolphin.

But his agent Matty Cowing said: "Frankie is definitely going to Haydock now. As well as Lucayan Prince he will be riding three horses for John Gosden and a two-year-old for Godolphin.

"Lucayan Prince must have a good chance and he's looking forward to it, though it is a wide open race."

It is still uncertain whether Hever Golf Rose will join the big race line up at Haydock on Saturday.

The filly, trained by Joe Naughton, has an alternative weekend engagement in the Taby Open Sprint at Stockholm.

Naughton was unavailable yesterday and a spokeswoman for the Epsom trainer said: "He still hasn't made his mind up and it's unlikely he will make a decision before Thursday."

Ladbrokes have taken Hever Gold Rose out of their betting along with Mind Games, another doubtful runner.

Miesque's Son was the subject of strong support and was cut a point by Ladbrokes to 2 to 1. William Hill, who opened a book on the race yesterday, quoted the French challenger at 7 to 4 favourite.

Miesque's Son is bidding to give trainer John Hammond and jockey Cash Asmussen their third success in the race following Polar Falcon (1991) and Cherokee Rose last year.
