Derry City - 2 UCD - 0: Derry City showed no signs of a European hangover following this FAI Cup quarter-final victory over UCD at the Brandywell last night.

Pete Mahon's side were dealt an early body blow after just two minutes when they lost the services of Patrick McWalter; the winger sustaining what appeared a serious leg injury after a challenge by Derry full back Shaun Holmes.

The visitors escaped punishment in the 23rd minute when an under-weighted back-pass by Conor Kenna was intercepted by Mark Farren but the striker's attempted lob sailed over the crossbar.

And in the 35th minute the home side should have moved into the driving seat when a shot from Farren was whipped off the goal line by Darragh Ryan and Gareth McGlynn hit the follow-up wide of the target.

However, two goals in the space of two minutes secured Derry's passage into the semi-finals. In the 65th minute, Derek Doyle was brought down by Killian Brennan inside the penalty and Farren exhibited great confidence when he tucked the spot-kick high into the corner of the net with goalkeeper Quigley going the wrong way.

Two minutes later the game was over as a contest when Kevin McHugh doubled Derry's lead. Brennan flashed a shot on target which was blocked by a defender and when the rebound broke to the Donegal man, he drove the ball home, through the legs of the unfortunate Quigley.
