Derry City maintained their unbeaten run at the Brandywell last night following this deserved victory over relegation-threatened Galway United. The win moves Derry to joint second in the table.

Derry broke the deadlock in the 25th minute when a Sean Hargan shot was spilled by Galway goalkeeper Mark Cobey and Eamonn Doherty blasted the loose ball home from close range.

Six minutes later the home side got their second when striker Liam Coyle sent Tommy McCallion scampering clear. With Cobey advancing off his line, McCallion unselfishly squared the ball to the unmarked Jamie Hughes and he scored from close range.

After the break the home side appeared to have settled for a 2-0 win and while Galway did get back into the match, they failed to seriously test the home defence.
