The bill for tonight's Ireland-Poland senior boxing international at the National Stadium had to be reshuffled again yesterday because of injuries and, in the case of Sligo light heavyweight Alan Reynolds, flu.
This leaves the home side with only two reigning national champions, bantamweight Damien McKenna and welterweight Neil Gough. It is an unfortunate situation for a match that has traditionally been a major attraction.
The senior match is now down to eight bouts following the withdrawal of lightweight Eugene McEneaney (back injury) and Derry's light welter Paul McCloskey, who reportedly picked up a hand injury in the Ulster championships.
An original double up at light welter is now reduced to one contest as a result of McCloskey's predicament. Michael Kelly of Dealgan, a world military champion last year, will make his debut with a baptism of fire against Sydney Olympic qualifier Mariuse Cendrowski.
The other Olympic qualifier in the Polish team, middleweight Pawell Kakietek, should also provide Cork's Kevin Walsh with a stiff test.
Only two of the team chosen to compete at the next month's European Championships in Finland will figure tonight - Damien McKenna and light heavyweight Sean O'Grady.
