Death of Dan Kavanagh

CORK/players' strike: Kerry GAA has lost another former great

CORK/players' strike:Kerry GAA has lost another former great. Dr Crokes clubman Dan Kavanagh (87) leaves behind an inpressive playing career that brought success at the highest level.

He won a Sigerson Cup with UCG in 1941 and, while there, joined Galway and played midfield in the All-Ireland finals of 1941, which Galway lost to his native Kerry, and 1942, when Galway lost to Dublin.

He also played Railway Cup with Connacht before returning to Kerry and coming on as a substitute in the 1944 final when Kerry lost to Roscommon.

Kavanagh won his only senior medal in 1946 when he lined out at left corner forward when Kerry beat Roscommon in the final. He played in the only All-Ireland final played outside Ireland, when Kerry lost to Cavan in the infamous Polo Grounds Final.
