JOCKEY GWEN Daly remains in hospital after sustaining a back injury in a fall at Ballinrobe on Tuesday night.

The amateur rider was aboard Star Of Boru, trained by her husband Alan, when the five-year-old gelding was brought down by Callthebigladjimmy just under three furlongs from home in the ballinroberacecourse.ieINH Flat Race.

Both she and Callthebigladjimmy’s amateur partner Mark Byrne were taken to Mayo General Hospital in Castlebar. While Byrne was released at lunchtime yesterday, Daly has been transferred to the Mater Hospital in Dublin.

Irish Turf Club chief medical officer, Dr Adrian McGoldrick, said: “Gwen Daly has a back injury. She’s been transferred to the Mater Hospital for further investigations. Mark Byrne has been discharged from Castlebar Hospital.”

Tonight’s meeting at Tipperary will go ahead as scheduled after the track passed a 2pm course inspection yesterday. Irish Turf Club officials announced the check in light of the recent wet spell, but found conditions to be raceable.

The official going is described as heavy, with the first of seven races due off at 5.30pm.

St Nicholas Abbey is among a field of 12 confirmations for the High Chaparral EBF Mooresbridge Stakes at the Curragh on Monday. Last season’s Breeders’ Cup Turf hero could have his first run of the year in Europe after finishing second to Cirrus Des Aigles in the Dubai Sheema Classic at Meydan in March.

The five-year-old’s trainer Aidan O’Brien has also accepted with Memphis Tennessee, who has not run since finishing third in the Irish Derby, Robin Hood and Windsor Palace.

Dermot Weld can choose from eight-times Group Three winner Famous Name and the versatile mare Unaccompanied. The latter is, however, likely to wait for the Saval Beg Stakes at Leopardstown. “I don’t know about the Mooresbridge. She might be going for the Saval Beg over a mile and six later on,” said Stan Cosgrove of Moyglare Stud.

“She only won on Sunday at Navan, but she’s in great order.”

A strong list of possibles is completed by Bob Le Beau, Chrysanthemum, Elusive Ridge, Negotiate, Parkers Mill and Sharestan.

Meanwhile, Mandaean and Mighty Ambition have been ruled out of Saturday’s Qipco 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket.

Mandaean won twice from as many starts as a juvenile, when trained by Andre Fabre, but will not be making his debut for Mahmood Al Zarooni this weekend.

The Betfred Dante Stakes at York on May 17th is his first target of the campaign. Mighty Ambition was a beaten favourite in last month’s Craven Stakes and will have his sights lowered.
