Camogie/ All-Ireland senior championship: There were no great surprises in the three Gala championship matches at the weekend, which saw Cork, Tipperary and Galway come out on top following respective wins over Kilkenny, Wexford and Limerick.

Playing at home in Callan, Kilkennywere fast on to the scoreboard after just 57 seconds, when Jacqui Frisby sent over the opening score of the day.

But after that lightning start they had to wait a further 12 minutes to record their second score of the first half, when Brigid Mullally sent over a point from play.

In between Cork scored two fine goals, the first coming from the 2005 All-Ireland winning captain, Elaine Burke.

The second arrived just before the half-time whistle from full forward Sarah Donovan and gave Cork a comfortable lead of 2-5 to 0-2.

Cork eventually won by 2-11 to 1-7 and face Limerick on July 8th while Kilkenny will meet Tipperary, who beat Wexford 1-14 to 1-8 in Wexford Park.

Tipperary and Wexford were seeking their first championship victories of 2006, but in the end it was the 2005 All-Ireland finalists Tipperary who came out on top thanks to a fine goal two minutes into injury-time from 2005 All-Star Emer McDonnell that secured victory for the Premier County side.

As expected Galway maintained their unbeaten run in the championship when they easily disposed of Limerick 5-17 to 1-5 in Killimor in the third championship game of the day.

Three first-half goals from Veronica Curtin (two) and Ann Marie Hayes (in the second minute) easily put the call beyond Limerick as Galway led 3-10 to 0-4 at the break.

Limerick rallied somewhat in the second half with a Niamh Mulcahy goal midway, but in reality Limerick were never anywhere near Galway in this championship game.
