DAVID CONNOLLY, the Republic of Ireland forward, is expected is join the French First Division club, Racing Strasbourg within the next week.

After rejecting the offer of a new contract with Watford, Connolly travelled to Strasbourg yesterday for talks with the club president, Patrik Praisez and the club coach, Jacques Duqueperoux.

Later, he said he was happy with what he had heard and was likely to complete the deal when his contract with Watford officially expires on July 1st.

"There are still one or two points to be clarified but I don't see any real problems to stop the transfer going through," he said. "I passed the club medical examination and was happy with most of what I saw and heard.

"The whole set up at Strasbourg is impressive. With 40,000 seats, the club stadium is very modern, training facilities are good and there is no doubt that the club is geared for success. If we can reach agreement on the points still out standing, I'll he happy to join them.
