Swim Ireland is to send an official complaint to LEN, Europe's governing body, arising from reported unsatisfactory conditions that the Irish team was apparently subjected to at the team hotel for last week's European swimming championships in Istanbul.

Reports of food poisoning and other forms of sickness were numerous and may have explained the many dismal performances by the Irish team. Most of the Irish swimmers were feeling out of sorts from early in the week and Nick O'Hare had to opt out of the relay team yesterday. Niamh Cawley had a personal best of 27.69 seconds for the 50 metres freestyle on Saturday but O'Hare and Chantal Gibney were way outside their best.
