Comfortable for Leeds

Shelbourne striker Liam Kelly was sent-off and referee, Paul McKeon, booked six players as Leeds United comfortably won a far more competitive friendly than they normally get on their regular visits to Tolka Park.

Kelly was sent-off two minutes from time for a second-bookable offence in a match that threatened to boil over on several occasions.

Leeds new Dutch strike-force of Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and Clyde Wijnhard combined to set up David Hopkin for the opening goal after just seven minutes.

Hasselbaink was having an eventful game; getting booked on 20 minutes and then punching the ground in frustration as his appeals for a penalty were waved away after he was pulled down by Pat Scully.

However, it soon got better for the powerfully built striker as he scored a superb goal to make it 2-0 on 29 minutes.

Lee Sharpe's dribble came to an end when a Shelbourne defender got a foot to the ball. But it broke to Hasselbaink who found the top right-hand corner of Frank's net with a tremendous left foot drive from 25 yards.

The game became anything but friendly minutes later when Shelbourne's Pat Fenlon and Leeds England youth international, Jonathan Woodgate, clashed resulting in a bout of pushing and shoving by up to 10 players before McKeon regained control and booked Woodgate.

Hopkin got his second, and Leeds third goal, when shooting home in off a post six minutes later.
