Clarke in European challenge

Europe will have 20 competitors, including Ireland's Darren Clarke, in next week's 81st USPGA Championship at Medinah. And interestingly, no fewer than six of them are Swedes, an increase of one on their representation at the US Open. The top Irish finish in this, the last "major" of the season, was achieved by David Feherty who finished seventh behind John Daly at Crooked Stick, Indiana, in 1991. Vijay Singh is defending the title he won at Sahalee, last year. The Europeans in a field of 150 are: Thomas Bjorn, Darren Clarke, Andrew Coltart, Nick Faldo, Sergio Garcia, Gabriel Hjertstedt, Mark James, Miguel-Angel Jimenez, Per-Ulrik Johansson, Robert Karlsson, Bernhard Langer, Paul Lawrie, Colin Montgomerie, JoseMaria Olazabal, Jesper Parnevik, Jarmo Sandelin, Patrik Sjoland, Jean Van de Velde, Lee Westwood and Ian Woosnam.
