Kildare champions Clane enjoyed a comfortable win over Westmeath champions Moate in this quarter-final at Athlone yesterday. While Moate took advantage of a strong breeze to build up a five-point first-half lead, they failed to make any impression after the interval, so much so that failed to even trouble the scorekeeper in the second half.
Their half-time lead, 3-1 to 0-5, was established through two goals by Declan Costelloe and a 1-1 contribution from their captain and inter-county star Ger Heavin.
Clane easily got on terms after the break with big contribution from inter-county stars Martin Lynch and Eddie McCormack and goals from Paul McCormack and Brian O'Donavan.
