THE final round of matches in this year's Budweiser Superleague threw up few surprises with the top four remaining unchanged. Champions Neptune completed an impressive campaign with a 101-91 victory over second from bottom Sligo.
An impressive 37 points from Sligo's Terry Smith beefed up his side's total but Neptune proved too strong with Mario Mullins and Steven Mullins helping them pass the century mark.
Runners up, Star of the Sea were without two of their players, Carl Donnelly and Adrian Fultom, who were both on duty for Jordanstown in the Varsities Cup at Belfield at the weekend, and it allowed Denny Notre Dame to finish their season on a high with Anthony Jenkins on 26 points their top scorer in a 93-83 win.
The only notable move over the weekend came down south where Tralee moved a place above Killester thanks to victory over Kerry neighbours Killarney, with American Rosco Peterson helping them to a 86-74 win.
Finally Annadale, though propping up the table, could at least content themselves with the highest score (111) over the two days when they defeated Marian who despite a hefty contribution from Kevin Ellery, were 13 points adrift at the end of play.
University of Ulster Jordanstown completed a memorable double at Belfield as the Varsities Championship reached its conclusion yesterday.
In action for the Belfast college in the men's final were inter county footballer Peter Smullen and Star of the Sea's Carl Donnelly who between them helped Jordanstown to a comfortable victory over UCG.
The women's final with the same two contestants proved a much tighter affair with Galway threatening to spoil the party when coming to within just one point of the Ulster side.
