Scottish Premier League: Celtic moved eight points clear at the top with a 2-1 win over Motherwell on Saturday thanks to a goal in each half from Maciej Zurawski.

Polish striker Zurawski struck Celtic's opener after 16 minutes with a low shot that three Motherwell defenders tried to clear before the line. He side-footed the second following the interval after being released by Shunsuke Nakamura.

Rivals Hearts lost 2-0 at home to Kilmarnock to allow Celtic to extend their lead.

Rangers moved to third place yesterday after a 3-2 victory at St Mirren. The win was crucial to Rangers' title hopes but they are still 10 points behind Celtic with 11 matches played.

It took a late winner from substitute Nacho Novo to secure the three points and relieve the pressure on manager Paul Le Guen.

Striker John Sutton headed St Mirren in front after six minutes but Rangers midfielder Charlie Adam lashed in a 20-metre free kick after 18 minutes.

Belgian Thomas Buffel made a diagonal run into the right of the box to drill a low shot into the left side of the net to put Rangers 2-1 up after 26 minutes.

Saints looked to have taken a point when Sutton squeezed a 78th-minute penalty under French goalkeeper Lionel Letizi, but Spaniard Novo came on at that point and pounced on goalkeeper Tony Bullock's parry to fire the killer third after 85 minutes.
