Barcelona had to be content with a meagre 2-1 victory over 10-man Celta Vigo last night as the underdogs in the all Spanish clash battled back from two goals down to earn a UEFA Cup lifeline.

Barca took the lead in the quarter-final first leg at the Nou Camp on 13 minutes through Patrick Kluivert.

Although Kluivert added a second early in the second half, Celta came back with a Pablo Coira strike on 69 minutes to keep their hopes alive for the second leg next week.

In the other all-Spanish contest, Alaves produced a fine second-half performance to record a 3-0 home win over Rayo Vallecano.
