Second-seeded Vaughn Snyman of South Africa, currently ranked 30th in the world, found Ireland's Owen Casey as dauntless as ever in the quarter-finals of the Irish Open championships at Templeogue last evening.

A shaky start saw Casey drop serve and trail 1-2. But the Irishman began to find better length and broke back at 3-3. Casey was seen in frugal mood in the second set to take the match in an hour and 10 minutes 6-4 6-2.

The semi-final line up for tonight is Casey v Nick Gould (Britain) and Tom Spinks (Britain) v Ashley Fisher (Australia).

In the women's singles, Karen Nugent confirmed her East of Ireland win over Gina Niland with a 6-4 6-1 success. She meets Britain's Kate Warne-Holland in tomorrow's final.
