EQUESTRIAN:Capt Shane Carey was denied an opening day win at the Belgian Nations Cup meeting in Lummen yesterday by less than half a second, writes Grania Willis.
The Army rider produced a double clear with Cashla Bay, but his time of 40.22 seconds was just off the pace set by Spanish winner Rutherford Latham.
Carey lines out again in this afternoon's Nations Cup with Cian O'Connor, Marion Hughes and Conor Swail. They will be hoping to increase the 10-point series lead Ireland enjoy over closest rivals Denmark.
Shane Breen, one of a six-strong Irish contingent at the Hickstead Derby meeting, romped to a brace of victories in the outside arenas.
