Byrnes hoping to end hoodoo

 Limerick Preview: Carthalawn's streak of "seconditis" can finally end at Limerick today where trainer Charles Byrnes looks to have found an ideal winning opportunity in the opening maiden hurdle. Four successive runner-up placings have shown the four-year-old to be talented if luckless and form that includes a Naas second to Wanango looks too much for this afternoon's opposition.

In contrast the maiden hunters chase looks to be anything but straight-forward yet there might be one horse to examine and that is Colman Sweeney's mount Ballistraw.

This one landed a Wexford point-to-point on his last start and looks a more reliable prospect than most of these.

Eric McNamara gives Good Thyne Jack a second start of the week in the two-and-three-quarter-mile handicap hurdle and a 4lb penalty doesn't look to have ruined his chance.

Good Thyne Jack got that for winning here on St Stephen's Day when beating The Fingersmith by three lengths.

Philip Rothwell struck pay-dirt with Black Apalachi in Tuesday's Paddy Power Chase and while the two-and-a-quarter-mile handicap hurdle isn't in the same league, it does look to provide the Wexford winner Another Notice with the chance of a follow up.
