Burn and Turn primed to deliver

BARRY GERAGHTY can make his first spin on Burn And Turn a winner at Killarney this evening when the Jessica Harrington- trained mare has a second start over fences.

Burn And Turn lines up for the Beginners Chase and the experience she gained at Roscommon a couple of months ago could prove crucial.

She looked a big player in that race until a mistake at the second last ruined her chance in the contest won by Baily Green.

Geraghty is on board this evening and he will be anxious to keep an eye on Henry De Bromhead’s Go All The Way, a decent hurdler, for whom Davy Russell looks a significant booking.

One of the happiest trainers in the country at the weekend must have been “Shark” Hanlon who had his first winner in almost two months at Sligo. The prevailing soft ground conditions haven’t suited a lot of his but Killarney is serving up very decent going in the circumstances and that, along with an absence of hurdles, could be the key to Clondaw Warrior in the opening maiden.

Hanlon’s three-time bumper winner has run three times over hurdles, winning once but not looking a total natural sometimes.

He is back on the level now, on a decent surface and the in-form Ronan Whelan can guide him home in front. Beach Of Falesa goes for a hat-trick in six days in the fillies handicap but Tommy Stack’s Clonmel winner Queens Visit is an interesting unknown quantity in this.

Punters latched on to Davy Russell’s sole ride at Killarney last night as they backed Catcherinscratcher from 11 to 2 to 7 to 2 and the mare obliged in the Christy McSweeney Memorial Novice Chase.
