GROUP NINE:SCOTLAND MANAGER George Burley insists his players will not be distracted by the fallout from their defeat in Macedonia when they attempt to kick-start their World Cup qualifying campaign with a win against Iceland.

Burley found himself in the firing line following Saturday's 1-0 reverse in Skopje before suffering another blow when Rangers midfielder Lee McCulloch revealed he had decided to quit international football.

McCulloch's decision was confirmed to the Scottish Football Association hours after reports claimed he did not wish to be considered for selection while Burley was in charge, sparking rumours other players are also unhappy with the national team boss.

But, as he attempts to register his first win in charge in Reykjavik tonight, Burley insisted: "There is no distraction - we are totally focused on a big game tomorrow night. I think it will be a cracking match, both sides will be very committed."

Burley did admit the personal criticism which followed the defeat to Macedonia had been hard to take and also felt it was unjust. "I've been disappointed," he said. "What we have to do is concentrate on trying to get enough wins to qualify for the World Cup."

Graham Alexander has been passed fit after suffering a thigh strain at the weekend, while Kenny Miller is a doubt with a hamstring injury.

Iceland began their own campaign with a surprise draw in Norway but coach Olafur Johannesson has attempted to play down his side's chances of qualification.

Johanesson claimed they would need "a miracle" to finish second in Group 9, with Holland favourites to come out on top.

When asked about mind games ahead of this game, Burley smiled: "I think he is taking pressure off himself. I'm sure, deep down with the start they had on Saturday, they'll be thinking maybe they can finish in that position. They're a good side, with talented players.

"It's up to us to prove that we are a better side. We have to show we are better than them and try to get the right result."
