Betting: Price looks right

No horses for courses form-guide to this week's Welsh Open at Celtic Manor, a new tournament on a new course

No horses for courses form-guide to this week's Welsh Open at Celtic Manor, a new tournament on a new course. With virtually all of the European heavyweights bypassing the event to prepare for next week's US Open, this particular addition to the calendar is wide open.

Ian Woosnam has been installed as 9 to 1 favourite but it is his fellow Welshman Phil Price who probably represents better value for money. Price, who lists being "Pontypridd man of the year" in 1995 as one of his achievements, has clicked back into good form in recent weeks. It is unlikely that a Welsh Open will carry the same demands - social or otherwise - as, say, an Irishman trying to win the Irish Open. So, Price, on offer at 20 to 1, is a good each-way bet to keep the title in his native Wales - and perhaps go some way to regaining the Pontypridd honour again.

9-1 - Ian Woosnam (Wales).

10-1 - Gary Orr (Scotland).
