AS Roma were celebrating their second week at the top of Serie A yesterday, after French wing-back Vincent Candela guided them to a 3-2 victory over Lecce.

Fabio Capello's men stayed top on goal difference but level on 25 points with Lazio and Juventus, who both won 2-0 yesterday. There were convincing wins too for Inter Milan (over Udinese 3-0) and Parma (over Torino 40), but no such luck in the night match for AC Milan, who scored in the first minute against Fiorentina but then slumped to a 2-1 defeat.

Bari's Moroccan defender Rachid Neqrouz scored twice as Bari came back to beat Piacenza 3-2 but now risks disciplinary proceedings. Neqrouz rolled up his shirt after each goal to reveal a T-shirt with the slogan "Morocco 2006" in support of his country's bid to host the World Cup. All slogans on T-shirts have been banned this season.

Striker Filippo Maniero scored both goals to earn Venezia a 2-0 home win over Reggina, while Verona beat Cagliari by the same scoreline.
