A look ahead to this weekend's domestic rugby action

Division One A (2.30).

Blackrock v Dolphin,

Stradbrook

Both of these clubs have lost their way a little in recent matches with the home side losing their last three fixtures while Dolphin have lost successive games.

Blackrock should have most of their underage representative backs available, which should make a difference but Dolphin can probably call on Nick Williams and James Coughlan. A dry day will suit the Dublin club who’ll need to keep it fast and loose.

Verdict: Blackrock.

Clontarf v Shannon,

Castle Avenue

After a sluggish start to the campaign, Clontarf have improved appreciably as was proved by the recent evidence of their excellent 18-3 victory over Garryowen at Dooradoyle. Shannon were furious following their injury-time loss to Cork Constitution, a late penalty conceded leaving a very bitter taste.

The visitors should have players like Ian Dowling and Felix Jones available but on recent form it’s hard to argue against the home club.

Verdict: Clontarf.

Cork Constitution v St Mary’s,

Temple Hill

Definitely the game of the day as it pits the top two sides in the division against one another. It’ll be a real test of leaders, St Mary’s, credentials to travel to Cork and try and get a result.

Having seen Constitution against Blackrock earlier in the season, their ability to produce quality fare is obvious but they haven’t sustained it from match to match. On form it should be an away win but home advantage might sway the issue.

Verdict: Cork Constitution

UL Bohemian v Garryowen,

Thomond Park, (19.30)

It’s strange to consider that Garryowen have misfired since beating Shannon on the opening day of the season and go into this night-time match as the underdogs.

The students have turned their form around with wins of contrasting styles against leaders St Mary’s and Dolphin in their last two outings and there’s no reason to suggest they won’t maintain that run tonight.

Verdict: UL Bohemian.
