A chara, - John J Kidney (November 27th) suggests that Cobh be named "Queenshaven" should Queen Elizabeth pay us a visit. But why stop there? Dun Laoghaire could be renamed Kingstown; Laois renamed as Queen's County and Offaly as King's County.

We could reintroduce British sterling as our legal tender, make Ireland's Call our National Anthem and perhaps bring back tithes as a form of tax. We could abandon the shamrock for the poppy, paint our postboxes red and ban Gaelic sports.

If Queen Elizabeth II does honour us with a visit, it is only right and proper that we pay her the utmost respect. The British monarchy has always shown a love for Ireland and that love was so great that, even today, much of the best Irish land is still owned by British lords.

As that great British band the Sex Pistols once said: "God save the Queen." - Yours, etc,
