Madam, - Your Editorial of April 5th concluded that the case made by Waterford Institute of Technology for university status was persuasive and deserved to be successful.

I was interested to note your Education Editor reporting in the same edition that the latest figures show that the vast majority of university students opt for the college closest to their own home.

As the south-east is the only major region without a university, these latest figures make Waterford's case even more compelling and the WIT's campaign for university status even more deserving of success. - Yours, etc,
