Madam, - In his fulsome and monocular eulogy to the unblemished virtue of American motives Liam Ó Géibheannaigh (June 14th) refers to "the main reasons for American action - aggressive Islamic fanaticism and UN ineffectiveness".
He omits such minor details as the part played by successive US administrations in fomenting and nourishing this atavistic fundamentalism as a counter-ideology to the Soviet challenge to US global hegemony, and the well documented history of US input into ensuring the same UN ineffectiveness. - Yours, etc.,
