Madam, - I refer to the letter entitled "US ambassador at NUI Galway" (Nov 26th).
The aim of the NUIG Law Society is to promote the discussion of topics of legal, political, and general interest.
By inviting Ambassador Foley to address the society on the topic of US foreign policy we pursued our objective.
That the signatories of the aforementioned letter felt compelled to write to The Irish Timesis testament to the fact that we are succeeding in our endeavour to promote discussion of controversial topics.
Were they equally "shocked" when we invited a human rights campaigner and former death-row inmate, Sunny Jacobs, to address the society on the subject of the death penalty? - Yours, etc,
