Madam, - Minister of State Noel Treacy TD is quoted as saying that the EU is "at one" on the issue of human trafficking (The Irish Times, June 30th). This is not the case as far as Ireland is concerned.
In July 2002, EU Ministers, including Minister of State Tom Parlon TD, adopted new legislation on combating trafficking in human beings. This was to have been transposed into Irish law two years ago. It will not be a surprise to anyone that this Government have so far failed to do so. - Yours, etc,
