Madam, – Your recent supplement Ancestorswas of great interest and useful to those commencing research into family history.

However, in the article “Sources and contacts” you fail to mention local authority archives or local libraries. Not all local authorities have a dedicated archives service, but those that do hold many original sources of interest to people studying family history, including for example, valuation records, 19th and 20th century workhouse registers, electoral registers, estate rentals, local business records, and in some cases local hospital records and school roll-books and registers.

Likewise local libraries over many years have built up large collections of primary and secondary sources which are of use to the family historian. – Yours, etc,
