Madam, - I support the call by Cathleen Benson (August 1st) for an Irish festival of Shaw plays. It may interest your readers to know that the Shaw Festival is a major Canadian theatre event held in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, whose main street displays a fine life-sized statue of Shaw.

The festival began in 1962 with the aim of stimulating interest in George Bernard Shaw and his period, as well as developing theatre arts in Canada. Its current artistic director is Jackie Maxwell, who is originally from Belfast. - Yours, etc,

MICHAEL WILSON, Ravenhill Park, Belfast 6.
