THINGS FALL APART

MARK SHEEHY,

MARK SHEEHY,

Madam, - What's happening to my Ireland? All the institutions of our society that we hold dear are collapsing. First the politicians shatter our illusions, followed shortly after by the Church. Now the Garda is under scrutiny. We can't even turn to sport for a bit of light relief - the GAA are fighting in the courts and Mick McCarthy's gone.

What next? Will the farmers refuse to take up an EU grant or will Eamon Dunphy plead with the FAI to give Mick his job back? Nothing would surprise me any more. - Yours, et.c,

MARK SHEEHY, Blessington, Co Wicklow.
