Madam, – The article on Monday’s front page about the scrupulousness of Michael Collins in paying his own personal expenses in the 1922 election concludes by stating that his “scrupulousness in handling third-party money is commensurate with his earlier employment. He had previously worked in a stockbroking company, a bank and an accountancy firm.”

He actually spent most of his pre-revolutionary career working for the British post office and I suspect most of your readers would see the business practices he acquired there as a more reliable guide to the origins of his business probity than the now rather dilapidated reputations of the other institutions. – Yours, etc,
