The price of water

Sir, – The protest march last weekend was impressive, but I believe that the protesters were misguided. Of course water supplied by nature is free. But supplying water to the people is not free and must be paid for by the people at large. If one has a well or draws water from a river or a lake or just has a rain cistern, there is a cost for pumps and piping and the like. We have always paid for water supply in our taxes paid to the State and the local authorities that supply the means for using the water. Perhaps the leaders of the protests have some wonderful solution whereby we can really have free water. – Yours, etc,
