Sir, - Some days ago, in one of your sports pages, you listed former medal winners - a small number - who brought honour to our country.
Martin Sheridan from Bohola, Co Mayo, who emigrated to the US in 1900, should not be forgotten. He held 16 world records and won five Olympic championships in 1904 (St Louis), 1906 (Athens) and 1908 (London).
A memorial honouring him has been erected and can be seen in his native Bohola. - Yours, etc.,
