Sir, - Can someone please tell me what is Emmet Stagg's problem with Luas? It will be integrated with both Iarnrod Eireann and the DART, it will go out to Dublin Airport, and it will save valuable street space in the city centre. Which of these features exactly is he against, or is it just that Labour and Fine Gael regret not having the sense of vision to push this through themselves? The previous version of Luas wasn't bad, but it just wasn't good enough to neglect the northside link to Ballymun and the airport, and it wasn't good enough to design a system without integration to the national rail network and the DART.
I'll bet Emmet Stagg 20 Euros that when this version of Luas is opened early in the next millennium and is seen to work, Fine Gael and Labour will be slobbering all over it trying to grab the credit. Are you on, Emmet? - Yours, etc., Jason O'Mahony
