Sir, In regard to the article under the beading, Conservationists appeal Lowry extension" (May 12th), we would like to state that An Taisce has no involvement whatsoever with Lancefort Ltd, the company seeking the demolition of the Lowry house extension, and is not responsible for its actions.

This does not imply that we condone in any way the action of any person flouting Irish law, and building without obtaining planning permission. In particular such action by a Minister in the Government who should most certainly be supporting rather than undermining Irish law - is disgraceful. The local An Taisce Association decided against taking any action in the matter, on the grounds that the development was not in an area of high amenity, or affecting a building listed in the Current Development Plan.

Yours, etc.,

President, An Taisce,
