The kindness of strangers

Sir, – Having tripped on the kerb in Abbey Street in Dublin on Monday, and being convinced that I had broken my hip, I would like to thank a nurse who appeared from nowhere and called an ambulance, as well as a very thoughtful garda, whom I presume was from Store Street station, who contacted my son.

I would also like to thank the two Dublin Fire Brigade paramedics who were able to move me gently to the ambulance. They are indeed a credit to their employers.

I would also like to thank all in the Mater hospital who attended to me. – Yours, etc,

JOHN OWENS,
