Sir, - I am delighted that the Minister for Justice, Ms Owen, has taken decisive action to deal with the crime problem. She seems to be the first Minister for Justice who not only wants to tackle the problem but also calls for a wider response which involves the community and other State agencies.
The issue of strengthening the family is often talked about but Nora Owen's approach to the crime issue seems to link this whole notion with the fight to reduce the crime level. This is good news and I hope that as part of this, the re organisation of the Gardai will result in locally based Garda units. - Yours, etc.,
