Sir, I have just finished reading the Budget speech and the various commentaries upon it. It is with deep frustration that I find no mention of the promised extension of the maintenance grant to cover Irish students in Britain - indeed, there was no mention of any increase in the third level of maintenance grant for Irish students in Ireland. Talk of a Budget to fight unemployment rings hollow when there has been no increase in access to third level education. It is hardly possible that the Government is unaware of the connection between employment and education - is it? - Yours, etc.,
