Sir, – Terry Griffin (July 13th) laments the absence of showers on our 25 “best beaches”. What about the scarcity – or complete absence in some cases – of a bin to dispose of rubbish? These are also to be found (usually in abundance) on the most modest beaches on the continent. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – I wish to take issue with Terry Griffin (July 13th) who laments the complete absence of showers on all 25 “best beaches” listed in the Irish Times Magazine (July 7th). Where has Mr Griffin been all summer? Should the absence of showers on Irish beaches not be considered a godsend? – Yours, etc,
