Taxi-drivers' protests

Madam, - Not long before the Irish Republic changed its currency to the euro, I decided to have a day's shopping in Dublin. After getting off the bus at the major terminal I hailed a taxi and told the driver to take me far into Dublin's main shopping thoroughfare. I had no sooner sat on the seat than the taxi came to an abrupt halt and the driver demanded: "Three pounds sterling - not punts".

It was only when I got out that I realised I had been taken only a few hundred yards and was on the opposite side of O'Connell Street from the GPO. What infuriated me most of all was was that I have a physical disability and I realised I had obviously been taken advantage of.

If it was up to me there would an "Angry, Ripped-off Taxi Passengers' Protest". - Yours, etc.,
