Madam, - I refer to the front-page news report in your edition of May 11th headed "Irishman with severe MS commits suicide in Zurich".
The use of the term "commits" is unfortunate, given that suicide was decriminalised in this country many years ago.
The preferred term would be "takes his own life". If a medium such as yours was to use this term in preference to "commits" I believe it would help greatly to remove the stigma of suicide in Irish society. - Yours, etc,
