Madam, - Congratulations to the 368 students of Cork Institute of Technology for their thought-provoking demonstration on road deaths, and thank you for giving it front-page treatment ( The Irish Times, March 6th).

Shame on our politicians for their inaction on this issue. While the number of road deaths is falling, there are still too many. Tens of thousands of people continue to drive on provisional licences and speed limits on minor roads are far too high.

Road deaths will be my number one priority when any canvasser knocks on my door during the coming election campaign. Martin Cullen et al, have had ten years to deal with this issue, during which time thousands have died.

Well done, students of Cork IT. Why don't you bring your protest to the Dáil? - Yours, etc,
