SPOILING THE SEASIDE

Sir, - I have just returned home from my walk down the rugged and beautiful west pier in Monkstown. I love the wild flowers on the edge of the path. I love the space and the sea stretching before me, and the sky surrounding me. I love the sun on this warm summer evening. What, I don't love, is tripping over milk cartons, tin foil and scattered newspaper. What I don't love is the lapping of Coke bottles, polystyrene and plastic, against the rocks. What I don't love is the people who spoil the beauty of nature.

I know you're sick of hearing about Ireland's litter problem but I have to say how it sickens me - and how people's short sightedness amazes me. We have destroyed the earth in a multitude of ways. Litter is just one of them. - Yours, etc.,

Monkstown,

Co. Dublin.
