Madam, - Your front page on Wednesday carried a marvellous photograph of the sun entering the passageway of Newgrange burial chamber while, inside the paper, Eileen Battersby paints an equally evocative pen-picture of the solstice.

Sadly, but entirely understandably given the severely restricted space inside the tomb actual attendance at this remarkable event can be made available only to a lucky select few.

However, while we may not all be able to watch on-site, off-the-shelf technologies in the form of a strategically-placed web camera at the end of the passage would make at least "virtual participation" in the solstice available to anyone with access to the Internet.
