Snowed in at Dublin airport

Madam, – Seamus Martin (February 6th) claims to have never experienced a Russian airport being closed due to snow

Madam, – Seamus Martin (February 6th) claims to have never experienced a Russian airport being closed due to snow. In Chicago, however, the two major airports, O’Hare and Midway, are often disrupted in the winter. This is a city that has very harsh winters with the landscape snow-covered for most of January.

It makes no sense for a country such as Ireland, which rarely experiences heavy snowfall, to invest in the equipment necessary to keep runways and motorways clear of snow. Comparing the preparedness of Russia with that of Ireland is nonsensical. – Yours, etc,
