Sir, – Jane Meredith (May 28th) does not explain why she takes exception to Brian Whiteside’s comment that “Our cause is simply the promotion of humanism”.
I see religious groups promoting their cause and their beliefs almost every day in Ireland; indeed these have been hard to escape during some of the current debates. So why should humanism be the only philosophy that is not allowed to be promoted?
Would she treat all beliefs the same and ban “promotion” of all religions in Ireland or is it just humanism that is supposed to hide its light under a bushel? – Yours, etc,
