Madam, – It is perhaps timely with opening of Convention Centre Dublin (Home News, September 8th) to look at our capital’s south docklands. I believe the development of this area could create a whole new centre to the city, which would have untold value. Currently the South Dock is a dead zone and with the proposed incinerator will continue to be so for decades to come.

If you look at the city, all of the residential areas along the coast are the most sought-after places to live. The Government in one guise or another (Nama, ESB, Dublin City Council, etc) currently owns a huge slice of this area. The container port will move in the near future for economic reasons. Could we not for once get someone in power with some vision to bang all of the heads together and develop this area for all? With some creative thinking they might even make some money out of the development. – Yours, etc,
