Madam, - It would be interesting to know if the rigorous security checks at airports ever successfully rumble any would-be hijackers or bombers. Surely any terrorist or anarchist worthy of the name would find less detectable ways of wreaking havoc on innocent travellers?

It is truly shocking to see the lines of paying customers waiting to be frisked by the security staff at different airports around the world, with old age pensioners shuffling along, shoes in one hand, holding up their beltless trousers with the other. We have had cosmetics, sun-blockers and toothpaste confiscated and tennis rackets sent back for check-in, and have suffered various other indignities in the supposed interest of safe travel.
